Trade Madness
Here's a look at what I would likely do at each spot given the draft assets and needs each team has.
1. JAC - Trevor Lawrence.... yawn
2. NYJ - Zach Wilson .... yawn again
3. SF - Trey Lance - Does anyone really know what's going to happen with this pick ? All signs point to Mac Jones, but I just can't wrap my ahead around trading 2 future first rounders for someone with seemingly limited upside. To make that move you have to be swinging for a potential Mahomes. Is Lance that guy ? Probably not, but Jones definitely isn't.
4. ATL - Kyle Pitts - Another interesting spot early that can shape the rest of the draft. Whether they trade Julio or not they need another weapon and Pitts is a potential game changer for the franchise. Hard not to draft a "can't miss" prospect.
5. CIN - Penei Sewell - This could very well be Chase, but my gut tells me when you have a number one overall pick coming off an ACL injury year one you should probably invest in a protection plan.
6. MIA - Ja'Marr Chase - Here come the WRs. MIA has to take one here especially if Sewell is off the board.
7. *NE - Justin Fields - It's no secret the Pats are desperate for a QB. The question is can they land one ? If Fields falls to 7 NE offers the Lions a kings ransom in order to make this happen sending picks 15, 46, 177 plus a 2022 first rounder to the Lions for pick 7 plus a 2022 4th rounder. The Lions have a plethora of holes to fill. If they are willing to part with the pick I think they look to Denver first before ultimately accepting the package that lands them a future first plus another top 50 pick.
8. * PHI - DeVonta Smith - With Fields off the board I believe Carolina will look to slide back. The Eagles desperately need a WR and after back to back blunders of selecting JJ Arcegia-Whiteside over DK Metcalf and Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson I think they may get aggressive. Philly sends picks 12, 70, 123 and 234 over to the Panthers for the 8th pick.
9. DEN - Mac Jones - I think Denver will look to move up to land Fields or Lance. Jones falling will serve as their consolation prize.
10. DAL - Patrick Surtain II - I don't have the slightest clue what Jerry will be thinking here. All I know is they had a historically bad secondary for much of the season last year. So probably wanna get some guys that can cover.
11. NYG - Rashawn Slater - Please draft a lineman to help create space for Saquon. Please.
12. CAR - Jaylen Waddle - This seems pretty ideal for Carolina. Sliding back and still landing a prospect like Waddle will have Panther fans saying "WADDLE BABY WADDLE BABY WADDLE BABY WADDLE YEAH!" and "GET IN THERE !" referring to the endzone. If they can't land Fields I think the best approach is an "all in" for Darnold. Put him in the best possible situation and see what the kid can do.
13. *DET - Micah Parsons - The Lions elect to part with a small portion of their now extensive Draft capital over the next couple of years to land a potential franchise cornerstone on defense. Trading away picks 15, 72 and a future 6th for picks 13 and 159 from the Chargers.
14. MIN - Christian Darrisaw - The Vikings have deficiencies on defense they need to sure up, but you can hide those when you control the clock. Help Cook keep cooking.
15. LAC - Jaycee Horn - In a division with Patrick Mahomes, you simply cannot have enough guys that can cover.
16. AZ - Caleb Farley - Similar to the Horn selection the Cardinals face Wilson twice a year and now a potential lethal combo of McVay Stafford as well.
17. LAV - Trevon Moehrig - AFC West needs QBs and DBs
18. MIA - Alijah Vera-Tucker - After landing their future WR1 at 6 it's time to give Tua some protection.
19. WAS - Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah - More young talent for an already dangerous defense.
20. *JAC - Rashod Bateman - Chicago has to acquire a QB early in this draft unfortunately they won't be able to move up for one and there won't be one that makes sense to draft here. So why not slide back and pick up some more ammo to potentially position yourself for one in round 2? After landing their franchise QB it's time to start getting him guys to throw to. Sure, the Jags could sit at 25 and take one of Elijah Moore, Kadarius Tony, Terrace Marshall Jr or Bateman, but why not secure whoever you think is the best of that group ? Jags send picks 25, 45 and 65 to the Bears in exchange for picks 20, 52, 84 and 204.
21. IND - Kwity Paye - The Colts had one of the leagues best defensive lines last year while first team All Pro DeForest Buckner was healthy. Adding to their front 7 could make them true game wreckers.
22. TEN - Elijah Moore - Time to restock the pass catchers after losing Corey Davis and Jonu Smith in FA.
23. NYJ - Greg Newsome II - Just feels like Saleh is going to start a long defensive run after beginning the draft with a QB. Newsome II was part of a secondary that gave Fields all he could handle last year. This would make for a great match.
24. PIT - Najee Harris - The writing is on the wall so clearly here maybe it can't be true. I believe it is though. The Steelers desperately need a talented runner.
25. CHI - Walker Little - Whoever ends up under center is going to need some upgraded protection.
26. CLE - Christian Barmore - Why not keep stacking your Defensive line ?
27. *ATL - Travis Etienne - What ? I know, crazy right ? What is ATL doing? Personally I don't know what they have been doing since halftime of their SB blunder. However, I have a feeling they will try to "go for it" one more time. Brees is retired. Brady can't always be good... can he ????? Just imagine an offense with Julio Ridley Pitts and Etienne. That might just bring the dirty birds back from the dead. Falcons trade away picks 35, 68, 187 for picks 27 and 171.
28. NO - Terrance Marshall Jr - Brees is gone so maybe now more than ever they need a young WR to run away with the Number 2 job.
29. GB - Kadarius Tony - Is this even possible? Probably not. The Packers seem content with providing Rodgers with as little help as possible, but a kid can dream.
30. BUF - Jaelan Phillips - The offense won't need much more help as long as the Allen Diggs connection is in town.
31. BAL - Rondale Moore - The Ravens struck out on just about every WR this off-season. I think we will see them address that early and often in the draft.
32. *MIA - Javontae Williams - I believe the Dolphins want to select a RB early in this draft. They have so many picks that moving up from 36 to 32 in order to have a 5th year option on a potential star RB makes a lot of sense. MIA sends the Bucs picks 36, 81, 231 and a 2022 5th rounder for picks 32, 95 and a 2022 7th rounder.
ROUND 2
33. JAC - Tevin Jenkins - First the QB. Then the WR. Now the Tackle.
34. NYJ - Jayson Oweh - More defensive pieces for Saleh.
35. BAL - Dyami Brown - Another WR ? Why ? Why not. That's why.
36. TB - Elijah Molden - The offense is pretty set. Add more pieces to the secondary.
37. PHI - Asante Samuel Jr - Addresses a desperate need.
38. CIN - Azeez Ojulari - I think the Bengals will be targeting someone like Dyami Brown here, but they will need to trade up to land him.
39. *CHI - Kyle Trask - As talked about earlier here the Bears finally get to address their QB void by trading picks 45, 83 and 221 to land Trask plus pick 113. The Panthers have slid back twice now which allows them to recoup assets they traded away for Darnold.
40. DEN - Dillon Radunz - Draft a QB high, draft a tackle shortly after.
41. DET - Gregory Rousseau - The Lions need all the help they can get on defense.
42. NYG - Alex Leatherwood - Another pick another offensive lineman. Keep the big men coming.
43. *CLE - Zaven Collins - The Niners draft capital was severely depleted by moving up to 3rd overall. I think they will look to recoup some of those picks by sliding back here. The Browns will be happy to ablige in order to land a big need in Zaven Collins. Niners get picks 59, 91, 132 and a 2022 5th rounder in exchange for pick 43 180 and a 2022 7th.
44. DAL - Jamar Johnson - Can the Cowboys get enough help in the secondary?
45. CAR - Pat Friermuth - Keep the weapons coming for Darnold.
46. DET - Josh Palmer - The Lions finally go offense and address another big need. WR.
47. LAC - Samuel Cosmi - I think the Chargers should be looking to add an offensive weapon, but if none fall then sureing up the O-Line is probably the next best thing.
48. LAV - Jackson Carman - I have no idea what the Raiders did this off-season, but it left them with glaring holes to fill upfront.
49. AZ - Alim McNeil - Build the defense.
50. MIA - Carlos Bashman Jr - after addressing the offense early and often it's now time to turn the attention to the other side of the ball.
51. WAS - Kellen Mond - Washington is in no man's land under center. Fitzpatrick has proven to be a nice stop gap option and Taylor Heinicke performed admirably in his lone appearance last year. Are either really the answer ? Probably not. Washington throws another name into their QB hat.
52. JAC - Richie Grant - After addressing their offensive needs with their first 3 picks they can look for defense now.
53. TEN - Liam Eichenburg - With their style of play they can't have too many offensive lineman.
54. IND - Cade Johnson - this pick just feels like it will be WR. The Wentz wagon needs more horses.
55. PIT - Landon Dickerson - A franchise with a history of HOF centers would love nothing more than to land Dickerson here to replace Pouncey.
56. CAR - Jevon Holland - The Panthers can now look to defense with the added picks they have collected.
57. LAR - Nick Bolten - Hopefully he gets invited to the Rams Frat house... I mean draft house.
58. KC - Ronnie Perkins - After addressing major O-Line needs via FA and trade KC should be looking to target another WR and defensive talent.
59. SF - Ar'Darius Washington - This secondary needs more juice.
60. NO - Jamin Davis - Fills a need.
61. BUF - Michael Carter - Do the Bills need a running game ? No, but can you imagine what it would be like if they did ?
62. GB - Jabril Cox - GB desperately needs another corner, but if they don't like any available here this helps too
63. KC - Jaelon Darden - They wanted JuJu. I imagine they will be drafting a WR this round.
64. TB - Trey Sermon - A bit of a luxury pick, but I'm sure TB will be looking to add another RB to their already deep commitee.
